Miyazaki Returns! New Ghibli Film Announced for 2001

Fans of legendary animation studio Studio Ghibli have reason to celebrate! Earlier this week, the studio held a press conference, and the news they shared is sure to excite anime lovers worldwide. Acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki, the visionary behind classics like Princess Mononoke, is returning to the director's chair for a brand new film!

The project, tentatively titled "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" (which translates to "A Thousand and Chihiro's Spirited Away"), is slated for release in Japanese movie theaters during the summer of 2001. While a specific US release date hasn't been announced yet, anticipation is already building.

The story centers on Chihiro, a ten-year-old girl who finds herself thrust into a fantastical world. After her parents are mysteriously transformed into pigs, Chihiro must navigate a dangerous and enchanting land of spirits and face numerous challenges to save them. While the film is set in modern-day Japan, it’s clear this is no ordinary adventure.

Adding another layer of excitement, American animation giant Disney is partially funding the production. This collaboration promises to bring Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi to a wider audience and potentially ensure a release in North America.

This is a truly momentous occasion for anime fans, and we'll be keeping a close eye on further developments surrounding this promising new film from Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli.
